　　首先来看这么一段话，来自《银河护卫队》里妈妈写给星爵的信：

　　Peter, I know these last few months have been hard for you. But I’m going to a better place. And I will be okay. And I will always be with you. You are the light of my life. My precious son. My little Star-Lord.

　　Peter, 我知道最近几个月对你来说很痛苦，但是我去了更好的地方，我会照顾好自己的。我会永远陪在你身边。你是我生命的曙光，我挚爱的儿子，我的小星爵。

　　这里涉及了习语“the light of your life”，它的意思是“最爱的人”。追星少女最能理解这句话啦，“为什么喜欢一个遥远的人? 因为他会发光啊!”

　　1. cast/shed/throw light on sth 为…提供解释;使…较容易理解

　　His diary cast light on life in England in the seventeenth century.

　　他的日记使人了解17世纪英格兰的生活情况。

　　2. come to light(真相)为人所知，被披露

　　Fresh evidence has recently come to light that suggests that he didn't in fact commit the murder.

　　新近发现的证据表明那起凶杀案并不是他干的。

　　3. go out like a light 立即入睡;马上失去知觉

　　go out的意思有“出去;熄灭”，这里就用灯光熄灭的速度来比喻立即入睡的状态，很形象吧!下面分享的例句来自《骆驼祥子》：

　　When he lay down finally, he went out like a light the moment his head touched the d, and he felt it wouldn't be such a bad thing if he never woke again.

　　到了夜晚，头一挨地他便像死了过去，而永远不再睁眼也并非一定是件坏事。

　　4. in the light of sth 因为，鉴于

　　In the light of recent incidents, we are asking our customers to take particular care of their personal belongings.

　　鉴于最近发生的几起事件，我们提醒顾客要特别注意照看好自己的个人物品。

　　5. light at the end of the tunnel 隧道尽头的亮光，曙光

　　这个习语常用来指局势出现好转或艰巨任务即将完成的迹象，不知道大家有没有看过《釜山行》。电影的最后幸存的两个人要通过长长的隧道，最终她们靠着尽头的亮光走完了隧道活了下去。

　　As finals approached, she felt that at last she could see the light at the end of the tunnel.

　　随着考试的临近，她觉得自己终于快要熬出头了。

　　6. show someone in a bad light 丑化(某人)

　　in a bad light的意思是在看不清楚的地方;在光线不好的地方。

　　有没有听说过有一种神奇的光叫韩剧光，没了打光画面可没那么好看哦!

　　He was concerned that the article had shown him in a bad light.

　　他担心那部影片丑化了他的形象。

　　以上的light都是名词含义，再来看看它的形容词和动词用法。

　　light做形容词，除了“光亮的，明亮的”的这个最常见意思，还有这几个含义：

　　1. 轻松的，愉快的

　　make light of sth 轻视，忽视(尤指问题)

　　It is easy to make light of other people's problems.

　　忽视他人的问题很容易。

　　2. 弱小的;少量的

　　light eater/drinker/smoker

　　饭量/酒量/烟瘾小的人

　　light sleeper

　　睡觉轻的人

　　3. 轻微的，轻松的，容易的

　　①make light work of sth/doing sth 轻而易举地做某事

　　Heather made light work of painting the walls.

　　希瑟轻而易举地刷完了墙。

　　②as light as a feather 轻如鸿毛

　　His death is as light as a feather.

　　他的死轻如鸿毛。

　　light作动词，翻译为“照亮，点亮;为…照明”，看一下这两个短语：

　　①light on/upon sth 突然发现，突然想起

　　We lighted upon the solution entirely by accident.

　　我们想起这个办法实属偶然。

　　②light (sth) up 使高兴起来

　　Rosie's whole face lit up with excitement when she saw the presents.

　　看到礼物的时候罗茜满脸兴奋。
